The Department of Dermatovenereology of the Kyrgyz State Medical Institute was organized in 1941. The first head of the department was Honored Scientist, Professor B.S. Yablenik (1941 – 1952).
Since 1952, the department was headed by Honored Doctor, Associate Professor A.A. Severov is the first organizer and head of the Republican Dermatovenerological Service. Since 1956, the department was headed by candidate of medical sciences, associate professor V.V. Teplitz. During this period, issues of diagnosis and therapy of syphilis, as well as some aspects of the treatment and prevention of dermatomycosis, were studied.
From 1974 to 1978, the department was headed by Professor I.E. Sosonkin. In 1978 – 1979, the duties of the head of the department were performed by candidate of medical sciences, associate professor A.B. Bolzhiev.
From 1979 to 1993 Ph.D., associate professor I.E. Sizov. Five candidate theses were prepared this way.
A huge contribution to the development of dermatovenerology was made by leading specialists working at the department: Ph.D. Tartakovsky V.I., Ph.D. Tulainova I. K., Kalybekova G.M., Ph.D. Toktaliyev J.J. and others.
From 1993 – 2002 The head of the department was candidate of medical sciences, associate professor M.K. Osmonaliev. Author of more than 90 scientific papers, manuals, 8 methodological recommendations. Under his leadership, the department carried out reforms in the field of venereology - transferring patients with syphilis to outpatient treatment, creating alternative services parallel to government services. The first international scientific and practical conference of dermatovenerologists was held.
From 2002 to 2004 Head of the department: Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor. Tulainova I.K. During this period, 1 candidate of medical sciences was trained, 2 scientific and practical conferences were held, methodological developments and manuals were published.
Associate professors of the department A.B. Bolzhiev deserve words of gratitude. Doctor of Medical Sciences T.V. Sokolova (defence, Moscow), Z.S. Yarmukhamedova, A.B. Buranchiev. The department's employees carried out extensive health-improving work among the population; scientific research was conducted to study the pathogenesis of many skin and venereal diseases.
From 2005 to 2015, the department was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Baltabaev Mir-Ali Kurban- Alievich. With his arrival, a new stage began - the creation of a modern scientific school of dermatovenerology Kyrgyz Republic. 2 doctoral and 11 candidate dissertations were defended.
M.K. Baltabaev is the author of 248 scientific works, including 2 monographs, 30 international (European, Russian) patents and inventions. M.K. Baltabaev is vice-president of the Association of Dermatovenerologists and Cosmetologists of the Kyrgyz Republic, Excellent Health Officer of the Kyrgyz Republic. He was awarded the Certificate of Honor of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Gold Medal of the World Intellectual Property Organization (Switzerland), and the Blinnikov Gold Medal.
From 2015 to the present day, head of the department, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Koibagarova Asel Almazbekovna. Studying the influence of radionuclides on the human body for 10 years, Asel Almazbekovna participated in visiting expeditions to the southern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul to examine and treat patients living near uranium tailings. The results of this painstaking work served to develop a new pathogenetic method of treating herpes infection, which was introduced into practice, and also served as the basis for defending a doctoral dissertation in 2014 on the topic:
“Etiopathogenetic features of the development of latent infection in persons living in mountainous conditions near uranium tailings,” in the specialties “Skin and venereal diseases” and “Pathological physiology.” Thus, in 2014, becoming the first Doctor of Medical Sciences in Kyrgyzstan in the specialty
“Dermatovenereology”, Koibagarova A.A. joined the galaxy of female scientists of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Asel Almazbekovna participated in the creation of the Association of Dermatovenerologists and Cosmetologists of the Kyrgyz Republic back in 2008, being its vice-president. Since 2011, he has been a member of the Coordination Council of Dermatovenereologists and Cosmetologists of the CIS countries, developing close professional ties between colleagues not only from neighboring countries (Kazakhstan, Russia), but also from abroad (France, Germany, Sweden, etc.).
Koibagarova A.A. is Deputy Chairman of the Dissertation Council of Urology and Dermatovenereology. She has published more than 100 scientific papers, 3 patents for inventions, 1 Rat. Proposal, monograph, teaching aids published. Under the leadership of Koibagarova A.A. 1 candidate's dissertation was defended, scientific research was carried out by 4 graduate students.
A clinical residency in the program “Dermatovenereology” and a postgraduate course in the profile “Skin and sexually transmitted diseases” were opened from 01/14/10 (together with “Urology”). Since 2014, under the leadership of A.A. Koibagarova. Dermatocosmetology began to actively develop, dermatologists and clinical residents are trained in leading aesthetic cosmetology clinics Diva Effect, Profus, “Dr. Kichina’s clinic”; a dermatocosmetology circle is actively functioning at the department. In 2017, electives in “Dermatocosmetology” were introduced for the first time for 4th-6th year students of medical, pediatric and other faculties. In 2018 retraining was introduced in the specialty “Dermatocosmetology”, advanced training:
“Mesotherapy” and “Botulinum therapy”. Every year, “Dermatological Readings” are held 5-6 times together with the “Association of Dermatovenereologists and Cosmetologists” of the Kyrgyz Republic, visiting conferences, Health Days, clinical consultations, etc.
In 2019, for the first time, the Olympiad for foreign students was held in English in dermatovenerology online and offline (organized by Koibagarova A.A. and Shakirova A.T.), and various Olympiads are held annually for the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.
Assistants of the department take an active part in the development of professional standards (dermatovenereology, dermatocosmetology), the Nomenclature of medical specialties, in addition, they participate in the public life of KSMA. I.K. Akhunbaev and the dermatovenerological service. In recent years, the department has published more than 300 scientific papers.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, teachers of the department with clinical residents worked in red zones, in emergency medical services, were on duty at checkpoints and call centers, and provided medical and material assistance to patients, volunteers and employees of various services.
Employees of the department annually organize charity trips to orphanages and nursing homes, providing assistance to children and disabled people in the form of clothing, medicines, food, etc. They organize Health Days, where speakers give lectures to the population, and provide free consultations with leading specialists - dermatologists, trichologists, endocrinologists, cosmetologists, etc. Koibagarova A.A. She is also known as a public figure helping our veterans, senior citizens and low-income families. Special attention should be paid to the targeted assistance organized by her family to the secondary school named after her grandfather - deputy of the Supreme Council of the Kirghiz SSR (1947-1967) and chairman of the Frunze City Executive Committee (1945-1955) Makish Koibagarova. At the end of each school year, Asel Almazbekovna and her family present certificates and scholarships to the best high school students.
Koibagarova A.A. has a number of awards: Certificate of Honor from the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States, St. Petersburg (2019), Certificate of Honor from the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Bishkek (2020), Silver breast badge of the Bishkek City Kenesh (2022), Certificate of Honor of the Ministry of Education (2023), etc.

The Department conducts research work in the following areas:
