The Department of Therapeutic Dentistry was organized in 1967. From the moment the department was founded until 2005, it was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Larisa Borisovna Saburova. Professor Saburova L.B. started in 1961. In 1965 she defended her Ph.D. thesis and in 1981 her doctoral thesis on the theme: “Clinical and functional features of the course of periodontal tissue diseases in high mountain conditions”. She has published more than 100 scientific papers.

Since 2005 till now, the head of the department of therapeutic dentistry is Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Klara Beishenovna Kuttubaeva.

Kuttubaeva K.B. graduated from the Faculty of Stomatology in 1978.. In 1988 she defended her PhD thesis in Moscow and in 2002 her doctoral dissertation on the theme: “Optimization of complex therapy of chronic generalized periodontitis using biologically active substances of natural origin.” He has 1 monograph and more than 124 scientific papers. He is the scientific supervisor of 4 graduate students.

The department’s staff carries out extensive educational, methodological, ideological, educational, research, treatment, advisory and social work. The staff of the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry carries out extensive medical and advisory work among the population of the Kyrgyz Republic. The “Healthy Teeth” Campaign is held annually, timed to coincide with the “Day of the Elderly” and the “Day of the Disabled”, the purpose of which is free prevention and dental treatment for those living alone, low-income pensioners and people with disabilities in the Oktyabrsky district, organized by the mayor’s office of Bishkek, in which is attended by 5th year students and clinical residents.

The department teaches the subject of therapeutic dentistry in the following sections:

2 course “Propaedeutics of therapeutic dentistry”;

3rd year “Cariesology”, “Endodontics”;

4th year “Periodontology”;

5th course “Diseases of the oral mucosa.”

The results of scientific work of the department are published in articles, theses, methodological recommendations and are introduced into practical dentistry. In total, 16 patents for inventions were received and 52 rational proposals were introduced. Since the organization of the department, more than 462 articles and 85 methodological recommendations have been published.

The department conducts research work with students (NSO circle), which is aimed at in-depth study of the subject of therapeutic dentistry, with the preparation of abstracts and reports. The most active members of the circle participate in the annual conference of young scientists of KSMA and give scientific reports on various sections of the discipline, receive patients with subsequent analysis of diagnostic and treatment methods.

As part of the “Days of Science of KSMA -2022”, under the leadership of our employees, 33 reports and theses were published, of which 3 prizes in the final overall ranking, 6 prizes in the sections “Problems of Dentistry” and “Endodontics”.

Every year, before the current transfer exams, a departmental Olympiad is held for 3rd year students of the Faculty of Dentistry, based on the results of which bonus points are awarded.

On May 23, 2025, the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry held an international scientific and practical conference in the Conference Hall of the I.K. Akhunbaev Kyrgyz State Medical Academy dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Professor Abdykalil Omorbaevich ABDUMOMUNOV. The conference was titled "Current Issues in Periodontology and Mucology." Scientists and physicians from Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan attended the event. Colleagues from various countries delivered congratulatory speeches, noting the professor's outstanding contributions to science and education. Guests also viewed a video biography of the professor.

During the plenary sessions, participants presented papers on current issues in periodontology and mucology, discussing modern approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases. The scientific portion of the conference was accompanied by lively discussions. The conference became a significant event in the scientific life of dentists, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and exchange of experience in clinical dentistry.

On September 20, 2025, the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry, in collaboration with the Ural State Medical University (Yekaterinburg), held a regional Olympiad, "AESTHETIC TEETH RESTORATION," at the Dental Educational and Scientific Clinical Base of the I.K. Akhunbaev Kazan State Medical Academy.

The main goals of the Olympiad were to stimulate students' educational, cognitive, and research activities, develop their interest in the profession, foster their creativity, and create the necessary conditions to support gifted students focused on pursuing academic or professional careers.

Fourth- and fifth-year students voluntarily participated in the Olympiad. The competition stage included a practical task on restoring the anatomical shape and aesthetics of anterior teeth on phantom models using Tokuyama Dental filling materials.

Three winners were determined based on the results of the Olympiad:

• First Place Diploma – Aiturgan Abdyzhalilova
• Second Place Diploma – Aziza Nasirdinova
• Third Place Diploma – Ruslan Guseinov

The winners of the regional "Aesthetic Dental Restoration" Olympiad, along with Professor K.B. Kuttubaeva, Head of the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry, Doctor of Medical Sciences, traveled to the finals in Yekaterinburg on October 11, 2025, at the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry and Propaedeutics of Dental Diseases at the Ural State Medical University.

The competition included a practical task on restoring the anatomical shape and aesthetics of anterior teeth using phantom models. Participants were provided with Tokuyama Dental composite materials in various colors.

Based on the Olympiad's results, our students received:

• Second-place diploma – Aiturgan Abdizhalilova
• Third-place diploma – Aziza Nasiridinova

The Olympiad became not only a competition of skills, but also a valuable training opportunity for future dentists, allowing them to apply their acquired knowledge in conditions close to real clinical practice.

The department has developed and put into practice herbal medicines: “Kirslavin”, “Aflament”, “Retsizin”, “Antoxide”, “Galavit”, “Perugenol”. LLC "Biovit" produces medicines "Kirslavin", "Aflament" in the official form in the form of a solution. The most important aspect is the training of highly qualified personnel for practical healthcare.

Over the past 5 years, 1 candidate’s dissertation has been defended at the department by Imanalieva A.J. on the topic: “Pharmacoepidemiological, pharmacoeconomic assessment and ways to rationalize the treatment of chronic periodontitis”, the staff of the department prepared and published 46 scientific articles, 4 textbooks for students, clinical residents, interns and practicing doctors, 26 methodological recommendations for students, clinical residents and teachers of the Faculty of Dentistry.

Advanced training courses for dentists and therapists on periodontal diseases are conducted.
