The department was founded in March 1942 and has operated for 82 years. Since 1989, it has been known as "Forensic Medicine and Legal Medicine", then "Forensic Medicine and Law".
The first head of the department was a pathologist, Professor Y.M. Lazovsky (1942–1945) (no photo available).
From 1945 to 1959, N.A. Naumov, a pathologist and associate professor, led the department. During this time, he also served as Chief Forensic Medical Officer of the Ministry of Health in the Kyrgyz Republic from 1946 to 1954.
From 1959 until 1973, S.Kh. Khamitov, an associate professor and student of academician I.V. Davydovsky, headed the department. Sh.A. Achekeev was his main associate and the first Kyrgyz forensic specialist.
In 1973, Associate Professor B.M. Semenov was elected as a head of the department through a competition and held the position from 1973 to 1991. Candidate of medical science, M.Sh. Mukashev, was his associate.
In April 1991, Associate Professor Mukashev M.Sh. was appointed as the head of the department, (from 1991 to the present). In 1998, he defended his dissertation at the Novosibirsk State Medical Institute for the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences
Scientific research is devoted to the determination of the age of death in the highlands (PhD Ismailov N. K.); morphofunctional changes in the regional lymph nodes of the lungs in burn injury (PhD Turganbayev A. E.); morphofunctional changes in the placentas of women living in the biogeochemical regions of the republic (Keneshbekov B. K.).
Currently, graduate students are studying the morphofunctional changes of the adrenal glands in mechanical asphyxia (Dzhanbolotov S. T.); mortality of the working-age population of the Osh region (Mamadyev B. M.), identification of the individual by the dentoalveolar system (Dautova A.).
Scientific achievements: according to the results of scientific research, three dissertations were defended for the degree of candidate of medical sciences, a certificate was obtained for a rational proposal for the morphological diagnosis of acute poisoning with copper sulfate (vitriol); a rational proposal for the table of odontological signs for identification of a person.
At the Department of Forensic Medicine and Medical Law, students are trained in all faculties in three languages: Russian, Kyrgyz and English. In addition, students from the faculties of the Siberian Federal District and VSO study in the evening department.
Subjects include forensic medicine and medical law.
Classes are conducted according to programs for medical, pediatric, dental, medical and preventive care and for pharmacists. In addition, department staff teach elective courses:
