Тhe Department of the Russian Language at the I. K. Akhunbaev Kyrgyz State Medical Academy was established in 1974. For many years, the Department has been an important structural unit of the Academy, providing language training for future medical professionals.

Currently, the Department employs nine staff members, including three Candidates of Philological Sciences and one senior lecturer. The remaining staff members are lecturers. The Department is headed by G. B. Kulbaeva, Candidate of Philological Sciences and Associate Professor.

Today, the Department of the Russian Language continues to develop its educational and research activities, improve teaching methods, and contribute to the training of qualified medical professionals.

The Department of the Russian Language proudly presents a series of textbooks and teaching manuals developed by the Head of the Department, G. B. Kulbaeva, Candidate of Philological Sciences and Associate Professor. These educational materials cover a wide range of linguistic aspects, from the fundamentals of grammar and vocabulary to the development of communicative skills. The textbooks are widely used not only at the Academy but also at other educational institutions in the Kyrgyz Republic that train medical professionals.

The Department’s lecturers actively contribute to the development of linguistic research. Their scientific articles are regularly published in leading academic journals and other scholarly publications. The Department’s staff members have published more than 80 scientific articles.

In collaboration with the Departments of Pharmacognosy and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Foreign Languages, and Latin, a dictionary of medicinal plants was published.

The educational activities of the Department of the Russian Language at the I. K. Akhunbaev Kyrgyz State Medical Academy are aimed at ensuring high-quality language training for future medical professionals, developing their communicative competencies, and fostering professional communication skills. The Department conducts practical classes for first-year students of all faculties of the Academy in the following subjects: “Professional Russian as a Native and Non-Native Language” and “Professional Russian as a Foreign Language.” Particular attention is paid to developing students’ oral and written communication skills, mastering professional terminology, and fostering effective communication in medical settings. One of the key areas of the Department’s work is the development of teaching and methodological materials tailored to the professional needs of future medical specialists. In 2025, a teaching manual for the elective course “Speech Ethics for Pharmacists” was prepared. It underwent review by the Republican Publishing Council (RISO) and was recommended for publication.

The Department continues to improve the teaching and methodological support of the educational process. In particular, work is underway on the development of the elective course “The Doctor and the Word,” which aims to foster professional speech culture and enhance the communication skills of future doctors.

In addition, the Department is working on a book entitled “Russian Language in the Medical Profession: From Everyday Speech to Professional Communication,” which is intended to support the development of students’ professionally oriented language skills. Work is also underway on a teaching manual entitled “Russian for International Students at a Medical Academy,” designed for international students learning Russian in a medical university setting.

The Department’s activities focus on continuously improving educational content, developing students’ professional communication culture, and training qualified medical specialists who can communicate clearly and effectively with patients and colleagues.

The staff of the Department of the Russian Language are actively engaged in research and educational-methodological activities, contributing to the development of linguistic science and the improvement of Russian language teaching methods at medical universities.

During the department’s operation, its staff have published more than 80 scientific articles and received 60 certificates. Eight faculty members have completed advanced professional development courses. Every year, the department organizes republican scientific and methodological conferences on the topic “Current Issues in Russian Language Teaching.” The conferences bring together university lecturers from Kyrgyzstan and Russian universities, including participants joining online. Participants present their scientific and methodological developments, attend lectures, and exchange teaching experience.
