The KSMA Library was founded in 1939.

At the origins of the library were L. M. Lappa-Danilevskaya, N. A. Rutkovskaya, V. R. Goncharova, S. M. Boking, and others. The library was initially formed on the basis of the Doctors’ House library. At that time, the library collection consisted of 11936 books, brochures, and journals.

For 30 years, the library was headed by Zoya Kadyrovna Mustayeva, who made a significant contribution to its development.

Since 1989, the library has been headed by V. Goncharova.

In 2002, the library was headed by S. Myrzabekova.

In 2005, an electronic library was established at KSMA.

Since 2007, the library has been headed by an experienced library science specialist, B. N. Sulaymankulova, who has 45 years of professional experience in library services. She was awarded the honorary title “Excellence in Education of the Kyrgyz Republic.” On the initiative of B. N. Sulaymankulova, in order to improve reader services, the electronic library was transferred under the administration of the library in 2009 by decision of the KSMA Commission.

Since 2009, J. J. Imankulova has been appointed as the Head of the Library.

In 2010, the Information and Library Complex was established under the leadership of N. T. Karasheva. Its structure included the library, electronic library, the Department of System and Technical Support, and the Technical Training Sector.

In 2014, the IRBIS-64 system was installed in the library, which enabled the automation of cataloguing processes.

In 2015, to improve access to electronic resources, the official website of the KSMA Library (library.kgma.kg) was launched. The website provides information on new acquisitions and remote access to full-text databases of textbooks and teaching materials.

Since 2016, following the reorganization of the Information and Library Complex, the library has become an independent structural unit, including the electronic library.

Since 2017, the library has been headed by G. D. Ibraimova.

In 2017, a reading room was opened in the morphological building.

In 2018, a library and reading room were opened in the student campus named after I. K. Akylbekov in Tash-Dobo village for students of the Faculty for Foreign Citizens (English-medium “General Medicine” program).

In 2019, an electronic library was opened in the morphological building.

In 2021, a new reading room was opened in the morphological building.

In 2024, the KSMA Library held the Russian-Kyrgyz Scientific Library Forum.

In 2025, the KSMA library purchased SAB IRBIS64+, SK-Electronic Library, SK-Wallet.

Currently, the library holds more than 620 000 copies of various documents, most of which are medical textbooks.

The subscription collection for readers of the Medical Faculty with English-language instruction includes more than 16 000 copies.

The periodicals collection consists of 78 titles of scientific and medical journals. Each year, faculty members and students subscribe to scientific medical journals and newspapers.

The electronic library collection includes more than 7 000 textbooks, teaching materials, and video resources. E-books are available through e-book readers in the student library.

Braille textbooks are available for students with special needs. To convert texts into accessible formats, the library uses specialized software called “Balabolka.”

Library services are provided through 7 subscription departments and 6 reading rooms with a total of 278 seats, located in the main building, dental center, morphological building, 4th academic building, and the student campus named after I. K. Akylbekov. In addition, there are 3 electronic resource halls with 39 seats.

Each year, the library serves more than 215 000 users and circulates over 360 000 publications.

The Electronic Resources Sector develops and provides access to digital resources in medicine and healthcare. Users of the Medical Academy have access to these resources within reading rooms, as well as to online medical databases.

The Electronic Resources Sector includes the following materials:

• books in electronic format
• teaching materials
• lecture materials
• medical videos
• audiobooks
• full-text database of the journal “Vestnik of KSMA”

Library staff organize book exhibitions annually.

The library operates an automated library system “IRBIS”, which includes the following modules: ADMIN, SELECTOR, CATALOGER, READER, INTEGRATION and BOOK DELIVERY.

To improve access to electronic resources, the official website of the KSMA Library library.kgma.kg was created. The website provides information on new acquisitions and remote access to full-text databases of textbooks and teaching materials.

Access is provided via login and password:

• Login: full name of the reader
• Password: library card number
