Project: Kyrgyz-European Laboratory of Translational Medicine (KELTM)

Kyrgyz-European Laboratory of Translational Medicine (KELTM) PROJECT

Project period: "12" September 2022 - "12" September 2027 5 years

Description:

The aim of the project is the cooperation of KSMA with INOVIEM SCIENTIFIC in conducting translational research for the benefit of humanity. The research will be divided into two stages, but carried out simultaneously.

The first stage of the study is to study the features of metabolically associated fatty liver disease (CKD) in the population of Kyrgyzstan in low- and high-altitude conditions. At the same time, new protocols and methodologies will be developed to support the development of pharmaceuticals and personalized medicine for the benefit of patients.

At the second stage, new technologies will be introduced: determination of cytosolic ATP, PIMS, NPOT. It is planned to expand the project with the involvement of all departments of KSMA.

Tasks:
  1. To train the KELTM staff (4 people in total) in laboratory practice of working with fresh and frozen human blood in general and the use of luminescent technology to measure energy consumption associated with various treatment methods and candidate drugs being developed for all human pathologies.
  2. To study energy metabolism and response to therapy in patients with CKD living in low- and high-altitude conditions.
  3. To develop and implement biotechnology courses on the basis of KSMU for young researchers and doctors.
  4. Assist employees involved in the project in conducting research and preparing publications that meet international standards.
  5. Expand the range of research topics with the involvement of researchers of various specialties in the project.

Financing organization: INOVIEM SCIENTIFIC, France, registered office: Headquarters, Bioparc 2, 850 boulevard Sébastien Brant, 67400 Illkirch-Graffenstaden

Grant holder: KGMA

Total project budget: 25,000 Euros per year

Work result/report for 2022:
  1. Associate Professor Toktogulova N.A. was trained in the INOVIEM laboratory on the use of luminescent technology for measuring energy consumption associated with various candidate drugs and PBMC in France. Also, Pierre Eftekhari, Senior Researcher and Director of INOVIEM, trained three laboratory assistants in a similar program at KSMU.
  2. Cellular ATP was studied in patients with CKD living in low- and high-altitude conditions in vitro. A total of 125 patients were examined. An article is being prepared.
  3. The results of the MAZHBP study were also reported at a conference in Hamburg with the publication of a thesis in a journal included in the Scopus database. The publication indicates the KGMA.
  4. 1 dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Sciences is being prepared.
  5. 3 topics of candidate's papers have been approved, where laboratory technologies will be used:

- Omurzakova U.K. (Department of Propaedeutics of internal Diseases with a course of endocrinology). Topic: Prognosis of the effectiveness of treatment in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in combination with heart failure

- Tagaeva B.T. (Department of Hospital Therapy, Occupational Pathology with a course of hematology). Topic: Prevalence of primary osteoporosis and low bone mass in postmenopausal women and related risk factors.

- Uvaidillayeva F.T. (Department of Pathological Physiology). Topic: The effects of growth hormone on the etiopathogenetic and clinical features of the development of type 1 diabetes in children.

6. A biotechnology course program for young researchers has been developed. Awaiting review.

7. The project was joined by the staff of the Department of Oncology with the development of topics for the study of colorectal cancer and breast cancer. Passed the ethics commission.

Work plan for 2023:
  1. To approve the program and introduce biotechnology courses at KSMU for young researchers.
  2. To train oncologists involved in the project in cytochemistry techniques for colorectal cancer and breast cancer.
  3. To study the pathogenetic features and features of the response to therapy in patients with CKD using NPOT technology.
  4. Prepare articles for highly rated magazines.
  5. To develop a project for the organization of a Clinical Research Center.
