Grant Benefits
The AAI Graz Scholarship Programme is conceived as a comprehensive and holistic support programme, including:
- monthly scholarships,
- study-accompanying measures,
- training and tutoring,
- reintegration support and follow-up contacts.
Scholarship recipients are exempt from tuition fees.
Application Deadline
Applications are accepted annually from 1 March to 31 May (Closing date: 31 May)
About the Programme
The AAI Graz Scholarship Programme is aimed at students from countries of the Global South studying at universities and universities of applied sciences in Styria. The programme is understood as a contribution to peaceful coexistence by promoting:
- equal opportunities,
- dialogue,
- intercultural competence,
- partnership and global responsibility.
The programme supports capacity development in countries of the Global South and contributes to the establishment of sustainable expertise, innovation potential and skilled professionals. By supporting students from Africa, Asia and Latin America, the programme seeks to educate future experts who are willing and able to actively contribute to solving development-related challenges in their countries of origin.
The programme promotes:
- independent, creative, critical and self-determined thinking and action,
- competencies for innovative problem-solving,
- global perspectives and the development of a globally educated citizen.
Special emphasis is placed on regional, international and transcultural networking.
Eligible Applicants
The programme is open to development-policy-oriented students from Africa, Asia and Latin America who:
- came to Austria on their own initiative,
- are enrolled at a higher education institution in Styria,
- demonstrate strong motivation, creativity, mobility and perseverance.
The programme explicitly aims to support students who face structural disadvantages in their home countries, including social, regional, ethnic, religious or gender-based discrimination. In this context, women are particularly encouraged to apply.
Types of Scholarships
- Scholarships for Master’s degree students (Application in Austria)
- Scholarships for Doctoral (PhD) students (Application in Austria)
Study-Accompanying Measures
The programme includes workshops, seminars and counselling sessions on:
- return and reintegration,
- career perspectives and job applications,
- professional development.
These measures significantly strengthen the goal of successful professional reintegration in the country of origin.
