Call for Nominations

The nomination process for the Ernst Schering Prize 2026 has officially started. The Schering Foundation is pleased to invite nominations for this prestigious international award.

The Ernst Schering Prize recognizes exceptional achievements in basic research across the life sciences and aims to support outstanding scientists distinguished by their unique scientific profiles. The prize honors pioneering research that has led to fundamental breakthroughs in biomedicine and contributes to scientific progress for the benefit of society.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible for nomination are individual scientists and collaborative research teams worldwide who:

  • conduct biological, medical, or chemical basic research in the field of biomedicine;
  • have produced pioneering research in recent years that has opened new and inspiring pathways or resulted in significant breakthroughs in biomedical knowledge;
  • actively engage in relevant debates between science and society, or have initiated activities to guide, mentor, and inspire future generations of scientists.

Special consideration is given to nominees who actively pursue their scientific goals for the benefit of society.

Nomination Procedure

Nominations may be submitted by:

  • established scientists,
  • scientific societies, or
  • scientific organizations.

Nominations must be submitted exclusively via the online nomination form.

Required Nomination Materials

The nomination proposal must include:

  • A summary of the outstanding scientific achievement (maximum 2,500 characters)
  • A statement outlining what can be expected from the nominee in the future (maximum 750 characters)
  • Brief descriptions of:
    • involvement in the scientific community,
    • support of early-career researchers,
    • social and public engagement.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • List of publications
  • Copies of the three most important publications central to the nomination
  • Up to two letters of recommendation (optional)
