Grant Benefit: Participation in the programme at a reduced fee of EUR 590 (regular fee: EUR 1,390)

The participation fee includes all programme components and lecture-related activities, as well as:

  • catered evening events,
  • one dinner at a traditional Austrian Heurigen restaurant,
  • sports evenings.

About the Programme

The “Alternative Economic and Monetary Systems (AEMS)” Summer University is a joint non-profit initiative of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (BOKU), Economy for the Common Good (ECG), and the OeAD-Housing Office, under the academic direction of Prof. Helga Kromp-Kolb.

The programme presents reform-oriented approaches to the current economic and financial system from a holistic perspective, focusing on the interconnections between economy, ecology, and society. Participants critically examine core challenges of today’s economic system, including the illusion of infinite economic growth on a planet with finite resources.

The entire programme is conducted in English.

Participants will receive 5 ECTS credits awarded by BOKU University.

Who Can Participate?

The programme is open to motivated students and professionals from all disciplines.

Requirements:

  • no prior background in economics required;
  • A-level / pre-university qualification;
  • proficiency in written and spoken English;
  • willingness and ability to attend the full three-week programme on site in Vienna;
  • minimum age: 18 years.

Application Criteria

You are eligible to apply if you meet the following criteria:

  • strong motivation and curiosity across disciplines;
  • demonstrated commitment to creating positive social, ecological, or economic change;
  • age 18 or above;
  • proficiency in English;
  • ability to commit fully to the programme duration.

Additional Criteria for Scholarship Applications

Applicants applying for a scholarship must additionally provide:

  • proof of active student status;
  • evidence of financial need;
  • a motivation statement;
  • supporting documents, such as:
    • a reference letter from a university professor, and/or
    • certificates of awards or achievements.
