The National project - Green and Digital University, is organically aligned with the EC Green Deal and the national strategy to reinforce the
ecological awareness, develop and adapt a system of a green and sustainable approach in HEIs. The project addresses the need of universities to increase the knowledge and capacities of HEIs to build and implement green and digital university policy, by supporting the definition, implementation and monitoring of reform processes that is going to be done by development of a national Green and Digital University Model. The GDU Model with the help and approval of Ministry of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic could be applied on a national level to enhance the educational innovation capacities of the Kyrgyz universities by implementing green policy and digitalization to increase their sustainable, inclusive growth and competitiveness. The model of a green university will include the establishment of Green Digital Offices (GDOs) to implement the concept of reasonable management, aimed at minimizing the negative impact on the environment, managing activities of the university based on energy and resource saving and promoting development of green ideas in society. Structural changes envisaged in the project will be the development of a special mandatory interdisciplinary training module for master's programs subsequently introduced into national curricula, the introduction of elective micro-credential course, as well as a general horizontal analysis of curricula and syllabi on green dimensions. Creation of the National GDU Network will allow the universities to become the platform that will unite the efforts of the academia and government to promote research and innovation and development of new policies in the field. The expected multiplying effect from the implementation of the project target directly more than 60 teachers and university management and staff and at least 10 000 students indirectly.

Second day of the international Erasmus+ Green KG conference – September 2, 2025
On the second day of the international scientific conference within the Erasmus+ Green KG project, participants gathered at the main building of Issyk-Kul State University (ISU).
In the morning, participants toured newly equipped modern classrooms and laboratories for microbiology and biochemistry, specifically designed for the ISU medical faculty. This served as a practical example of implementing innovations and modern educational standards in the context of sustainable development and university digitalization.
Opening the panel session, the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation of the Kyrgyz Republic, Nurbek Omurov, gave a welcoming speech. He emphasized the importance of the Green KG project for the development of higher education in the country, noting that the initiative promotes not only digital transformation but also the formation of a culture of ecological responsibility in universities.
Leading experts and project partners followed with speeches, including:
-
Marina Tropman from Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (Germany)
-
Vice-Rector of DA Ministry of Foreign Affairs KR, Zhanara Baitogulova
-
Rector of Bishkek State University, Mirlan Dyldaev
-
Representative of the National Erasmus+ Office in Kyrgyzstan, Nurgul Kasenova
All speakers unanimously emphasized that the Green KG project plays a key role in forming a new educational model combining ecological literacy and digital competence. This will allow Kyrgyz universities to become true “green universities,” capable of preparing high-level professionals and actively implementing sustainable practices in daily activities.
A key part of the program was expert presentations on modern trends in eco-literacy in universities. Speakers discussed what a “green university” of the future should be—covering “green” infrastructure, educational programs, tools for assessing ecological sustainability, and student engagement in environmental protection projects.
Throughout the day, participants exchanged experiences, discussed development strategies, and planned the further expansion of the network of “green” and digital offices in Kyrgyz universities.

Guest Lecture by KSMA Dean of Medical Engineering, Ksenia Bogomolets, at ISU – September 1, 2025
On September 1, 2025, at Issyk-Kul State University (ISU), Ksenia Bogomolets, Dean of the Faculty of Medical Engineering at KSMA, delivered a guest lecture for second-year medical students of ISU titled: “Visualization in Medicine: Technologies, Capabilities, Perspectives.”
During the lecture, Ksenia Bogomolets introduced students to modern directions in medical visualization—from X-ray imaging to artificial intelligence applications. The lecture covered current achievements and challenges in medical engineering, emphasizing the importance of an interdisciplinary approach in training future doctors and researchers.
KSMA and ISU implement a joint double-degree educational program “2+4”. According to the program, students study at ISU for the first two years and continue their education at KSMA. The initiative aims to improve the quality of medical training and expand academic mobility for students.
Additionally, KSMA and ISU have a strategic cooperation agreement covering academic exchanges, research, joint projects, and faculty professional development.
Both universities are active participants in the Erasmus+ project “Green and Digital Universities for Sustainable Development of Kyrgyzstan” (Green KG), aimed at supporting the green and digital transformation of higher education in Kyrgyzstan. The project unites leading universities in efforts to modernize the educational environment, promote ecological thinking, and implement innovative digital solutions in education.
Ksenia Bogomolets’ lecture contributed not only to academic cooperation between the universities but also served as an important step in shaping a new generation of students ready to work professionally in a changing world where sustainability, technology, and interdisciplinarity are key competencies.
